ABSTRACT. The present article highlights the strategies of realizing the infotainment format during the news bulletins broadcasted at primetime hours, focusing on how the irony is used as an essential figure of speech to outline the entertainment component. Having as a background the definitions and theories issued by foreign and Romanian researchers, the present study exposes the ways the journalists create an informal atmosphere by communicating familiarly even though sometimes the topics they are debating this way have an effective social impact and they may be presented in a less soft way. The research involves analysis of the media discourse aiming at presenting on the case study the infotainment conventions during high rating news bulletins broadcasted on private television channels. pp. 35–45
