Abstract. News makes sense within a social context and news texts favor factual information. The use of Internet applications by journalists working in mainstream news media is influenced by social context factors. The Internet provides broad opportunities for all kind of news exchanges among a wide audience. Mass com-munication contains political and economic priorities that redefine its traditional role in a democratic society. Journalists do not appear very systematic in the way they gather information and do not ordinarily seek to uncover the facts that lie behind untruths. pp. 223–230
