The following article has recently been presented as a paper in the international meeting on communication and journalism that took place at University of Lund, Helsingborg campus, Sweden, July 2008. It deals with the importance of intercultural communication, its values, principles, attitudes and purposes. Intercultural communication is viewed as the basis for international relations. Actually, intercultural communication is a window towards the future, as people from diferrent cultural background interact more and more. We explain the concept of culture, the difference between culture and civilization, as well as between intercultural communication and cross-cultural communication. The relationship between intercultural communication, education and religion is also emphasized.
