The major objective of this paper is to shed some light on the political background of the collapse of democracy in Romania that followed after the general election of the year 1937. The main focus is to point out the way parties of the moment committed political suicide by going against one another. To achieve this goal I decide to present and analyze some political papers taken from the most important newspapers of the time. The new constitution enforced by Carol II put an end not only to the political parties’ existence and functioning, but also to the liberty of free speech.
