Abstract

The adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) has significantly influenced financial reporting practices across many jurisdictions. IFRS aims to provide high-quality, transparent, and comparable financial information for investors and other users of financial statements. This paper examines the impact of IFRS adoption on the quality and comparability of financial statements, focusing on relevance, faithful representation, transparency, consistency, and cross-border comparison. IFRS adoption can improve financial reporting by establishing common recognition, measurement, presentation, and disclosure requirements. A common reporting framework may also reduce differences between national accounting systems and facilitate comparison among companies operating in different countries. However, the benefits of IFRS are not automatic. Differences in enforcement, institutional environments, managerial incentives, professional expertise, and implementation practices can influence the quality of IFRS-based reporting. The paper concludes that IFRS adoption can contribute positively to financial reporting quality and international comparability when supported by effective enforcement, professional competence, strong corporate governance, and consistent application of the standards.
